Department of Education • $373,691
This grant, from the Office of Safe & Drug Free Schools, gave us an extraordinary opportunity to impact the lives of hundreds of youth through an intensive mentoring program. We paired high school students with 4th – 8th graders and for three years produced significant progress in students' grade scores and unexcused absenses.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation • $57,545
This grant allowed us to set up an 18-workstation computer lab, with generous in-kind support from Rick Hoss, Skookum Rotary, and Hood Canal Communications. The lab opened to the public in 2003.
Shelton School Distirct • 37,813
This timely grant enabled us to undertake the Transitions program, which helps youth in the Mason County Juvenile Detention Center prepare release plans and then provides case management as the youth carry out their plans after release.
The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound • $27,000
The Community Foundation has awarded us four grants since 2003 -- the year in which they gave us a $15,000 grant, the largest ever awarded a single organization. We use these grants for youth programs.
Rep. Kathy Haigh, DVM • $18,200
This generous individual grant was used to pay rent and utility expenses for a year, and allowed us to keep our doors open.
Skookum Rotary • $9,700
This organization has awarded us six grants during the past seven years, allowing us to offer summer day camps, field trips, and educational programs.
